Good morning Year 3!

I hope you are all well and safe at home. I am looking forward to another brilliant day of home learning. I hope you are too.

Who will be our star of the day?

Look at yesterday's blog to see the brilliant work your friends have been doing.

Here are your 3 activities for the day:

1. English

Today we are going to look at a BBC Bitesize lesson. Click on the link below and watch the video about verbs. Remember a verb describes an action.

Complete activities 1 and 2. Think of 10 actions you can do at home. Write a sentence for each and underline your verb.To help you remember you can say your sentence whilst acting it out.

For example:
I can hop on one leg. Hop is my verb
I can run quickly around my garden. Run is my verb.

    2. Maths

Today we are going to look at lesson 8 on fractions. Follow the link below. Select the lesson 'consolidating finding non-unit fractions of quantities'. Select 'start lesson'. Complete the quiz at the beginning. Then watch the video and complete the activities.

You might want to use small toys or objects to help with sharing out again.

     3. P.E

Imoves is brilliant website with lots of P.E videos called ‘active blasts’. You can access the website for free using the link below. Have a go at any of the active blasts you like. They are really fun and a great way to keep moving!

If you prefer, you can choose to use GoNoodle or Joe Wick’s instead. As long as you are getting your body moving, i'll leave that up to you.

Reading

Today we are going to try something different for our reading lesson. Listen to the poem ‘Please Mrs Butler’ read aloud by Oti Mabuse. You might recognise the poet from the poem 'scissors' we looked at last term. Read the poem and answer the questions.

Good morning Year 3!

I hope you all slept well and are ready for another great day of home learning today.

Here are your 3 activities for today:

1. English

We are going to finish our work on trolls by writing our own information text just like the example on pages 4 and 5. Read the text again to give you ideas for your own.
https://www.talk4writing.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Y3-Unit.pdf

Remember to include your sub headings and interesting facts you have written over the last week. Don't forget to add pictures.

Start your writing in the same way as the example (below).

Many people believe trolls are angry, mean beasts that terrify goats and people. However, this is not true. Here is the truth about trolls.

This is your chance to show us your fantastic writing!

2. Maths

Today we are going to look at lesson 7 on fractions. Follow the link below. Select the lesson 'finding non-unit fractions of quantities'. Select 'start lesson'. Complete the quiz at the beginning. Then watch the video and complete the activities.

You might want to use small toys or objects to help with sharing out.

3. Geography

Last week was National Earth day. Look at the link below explaining why earth day is so important. It talks about the problems with global warming and what we can do to help.

Your job is to create a poster to show people what they could do to help our planet. For example, you might ask them to stop buying plastic bags in the supermarket. Try to make your poster colourful and bright.

For reading today we would like you to read a non-fiction book from your book bag. Can you summarise what the book was about?

Times tables

Continue to challenge yourself on Times Table Rockstars.
Please comment below or email to say hello, we love to hear from you. Don't forget to send in your lovely photos to year.3@ctk.education

Good morning Year 3!

I hope you're all well and staying safe at home.

Wake yourself up with Joe Wick's or learn a new dance with GoNoodle.

Here are your 3 activities for today:

1. Today we are going to look at lesson 6 on fractions. Follow the link below. Select the lesson 'identify and describe non-unit fractions'. Select 'start lesson'. Complete the quiz at the beginning. Watch the video and complete the activities.

https://www.thenational.academy/online-classroom/year-3/maths/#subjects

Hopefully you are starting to feel a little more confident with fractions.
2. For English today we are going to plan our information text that we will write tomorrow. Follow the link below to the text 'The Truth about Trolls'.

https://www.talk4writing.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Y3-Unit.pdf

As you reread the text on pages 4 and 5 look at the structure of the text and the sub headings they use. We are going to be focusing on pages 14 and 15 today. Look at the sub headings on page 14 or think of your own.  Use the plan on page 15 to decide what you will write in your information text under each sub heading.

Think about:
-what your troll looks like
-what they eat
-where it lives
-interesting or funny facts

3. Today we are going to be coding using scratch (follow the link below). Watch the tutorial video to understand how to code your sprite (character). Can you make your sprite  move across the screen and make a noise. Can you change the backdrop? Have a play around and see what else you can do. You can watch some other tutorials to see what else you can learn.

Don't forget to challenge yourself on Timetable Rock Stars. Read your favourite school book to your teddy today. I'm sure they would love to hear your brilliant reading.
