Good morning Year 3!

I hope you slept well and that you are ready for a great day of home learning. We look forward to seeing you on our zoom call tomorrow at 10am.

Who will be our star of the day?

Here are your activities:

Warm up

Our new Summer School Games challenge is called 'Tuck In, Tuck Out'. Your job is to practise the challenge as much as you can until you achieve your best score. The video explains what you have to do. How many can you do in 1 minute?

Let me know your best score and share any photos/video of you completing the challenge. You have until Friday to let me know your best score.

I will assume that if you share a picture/video and a score with me that you are happy for this to be shared on the summer games website, if not please let me know.

English

Today we are going to be focusing on pages 10 and 11 in our booklets. Read the example poem on page 11 titled 'I didn't know i'd miss'. You can also listen to the poem if you prefer. Your task is to write your own poem about things that you might be missing at the moment. Note that each verse starts with the same sentence, 'I didn't know i'd miss'.

Maths

We are going to continue looking at multiplication division today, as this will help us with our next unit of maths. Scroll down to 'multiplication and division'. Click on lesson 2, 'multiply and divide by 1000'. Watch the video and complete the activities.

Reading

Read another of your new books you chose yesterday from Oxford Owl. If you haven't yet chosen 3 new books, do that today (look back at yesterday's reading task). We are going to be writing a book review. Remember that a book review is your chance to explain why you liked or didn't like the book you read.

Things to include in your book review:
Title of book
Author
Fiction or Non-fiction
How many stars would you give it out of 5?
What was the book about?
Who were the characters?
Who would like reading this book?
Would you recommend it?
Book illustration

Here is an example layout you may want to follow.
Science

We would have been learning about light during term 6. Today we are going to be looking at shadows and why they form. We are also going to make shadow puppets. First, watch the video below explaining how shadows are formed.

You will need:
  • Animal-shaped templates (you can draw an animal or draw around a picture)
  • Black card or paper
  • A wooden stick or straw
  • Scissors
  • Tape
1. Draw the outline of your animal or draw around a picture
2. Cut around the outline of your animal onto the card
3. Stick the wooden stick or straw to the back of your animal
4. Now you’re ready for a puppet show. Shine a light source (a torch) behind your puppets and onto a wall or white surface.

Challenge: You could make a puppet theatre using a cardboard box and create a puppet show.
Have a look at the link below if you need some more tips.

Please remember to comment below or send us an email to let us know how you are. Also, keep sending in your wonderful photos to year.3@ctk.education

Have a lovely day,

Miss Kingscote
